Phillies to Take Second Look at Pedro Martinez

Jayson Stark does some detailed reporting on where things stand with the Phillies and Pedro Martinez.  It seems as if -- though he initially balked at the idea -- the Phillies will watch Pedro throw again on Friday at 1 PM at the Phillies' complex in the Dominican Republic.

More facts gleaned from Stark:

• When the Phillies scouted him on Tuesday, it was a 3 inning simulated game against a Phillies summer league team and Pedro reached 93 on a radar gun.
• If the Phillies like what they see on Friday, if his arm can repeat what the Phillies saw on Tuesday, Pedro will travel to Philadelphia for a physical.
• As I speculated, if the Phillies pick-up Martinez, it would not prevent them from also making a run at a Roy Halladay trade.

It's impossible to know whether or not this will be a good move for the Phillies, but nevertheless, it is interesting to watch these events unfold.
