It took Cole Hamels 101 surgical pitches to get through 8 innings against the Brewers, striking out nine in a 3-0 defeat of the Brewers. The Brewers had only three baserunners while Hamels was on the mound.
Cole did everything right in this game from choosing the right undershirt to his poise, to his pitch selection, to execution. His effort was a thing of beauty and someday, in 20 or so years when Hamels is giving his Cooperstown acceptance speech, this is one of the games we'll remember.
Brad Lidge closed out the game for the win and the less we say about that the better. Lets just focus on how important it was for the Phillies to take a 1-0 lead in the series with the Brewers sending the best pitcher on the planet, C.C. Sabathia to the mound for Game 2.
