There's been a considerable amount of discussion as of late as to how much of a comeback team the Phillies are this season. The team's number of comeback wins is often cited at twenty, which as it stands right now, is over half of their 39 wins. However, what you don't often hear is that they've also blown 12 games they were leading.
What's interesting to look at is the average score of the Phillies games by inning [click to enlarge]:
As you can see, on average, the Phillies are ahead for most of the game after the second inning, but the game is tight, on average. And then, on average, from the sixth inning and after is where the Phillies really begin to pull away.
The take home message, for me at least, isn't so much how the Phillies can comeback, but more so how they just put teams away in the later innings.
