Charlie's Not the One Scoring Less Than Andy Stitzer
This morning all the attention is on Charlie Manuel for leaving Jamie Moyer in one batter too many in last night's 5-2 loss to the team formerly known as the Philadelphia Athletics.
But that's not really the problem with the loss, the sixth in a row. No, the problem is the offense, which is the same problem the Phillies have had in what we can hope is only a six-pack and not a whole keg of losses. The only run scored the entire evening was Pat Burrell's solo shot early on.
If the offense is doing it's thing the way it should, that three-run homer Moyer gave up to Emil Brown would have merely cut into a Phillies lead and the two-run homer JC Romero gave up in the 8th inning would have maybe tied the game.
When you score only eleven runs in six games, it doesn't matter how good, bad or indifferent your manager's moves are, and it doesn't matter who is on the mound.
The Phillies are seeing some good pitching right now [5 of the last 6 opposing starters have a career ERA+ over 100], but by the same token, they aren't handling it very well either, regularly squandering what opportunities they do manage to stumble upon.
C'mon guys, lets get some runs.

A "Why Did I Bother" Update: Just looked it up, over the last six games the Phils are batting .170/.256/.229. But you can't say they aren't clutch, they are batting higher with runners in scoring position [.175!].
