As of this evening, we've reached the halfway point in the initial eight episodes of LOST that were completed before
the writers' strike suspended production of the fourth season.
When the show returned a month ago after 8 months off, it was obvious the the writers and showrunners had spent their time wisely. Right from the start, it was clear they had found the delicate balance between intrigue and moral ambiguity on one side and advancing the plat on the other side. It was that very balance that had drawn millions to the show in the first place.
[spoilers to follow]
Like other seasons, an episode in season 4 answers far fewer questions than it creates. Sayid reluctantly works for Ben when e veryone gets back to the real world? Kate brought baby Aaron back to civilization? Was this at Claire's request? Is Locke, Sawyer et al still on the island and are they OK?
Viewers of season 3 might have given up on ever having those or any other questions answered. In that season, it would take five episodes just to find out stuff we already knew, like the Red Sox winning the World Series. But this season, with the pace fast and furious, you have every bit of faith that the above questions will be answered promptly.
If you are one of the millions of fans who hung in there, wandering through the wilderness that was season 3, you've been rewarded.

Last season, I referred readers to a site called Begging to Differ for LOST recaps. While that site has been turned into a message board, the writer of those excellent recaps, "BTD Greg", has resurfaced at Kulturblog. Point your browsers there the morning after and take in all the LOST post-game analysis.
