In recent days, I've managed to tweak or add some features to BSS.com.
The most useful of these features are comment feeds. Now, each post has an RSS feed for the comments of each post. Simply click on the comments link of each post, and you will see this above the comments:
For instance, if you were subscribed to the comments of the post, "The Inevitable Happened, Just Like We Thought it Might", then a great comment by "Squonk" would have appeared in your feed reader this morning.
There are a few other features as well:
- Search: Now, results are loaded as an overlay on the main page, rather than re-directing your browser to another page entirely.
- Countdown Clock: At the top of the main page is a clock that keeps track of the time remaining until various events -- some real, some imagined.
- For Consumption: In the right hand sidebar are links to the most recent items posted to BSS.com as well as recommended reading on other sites.
- Navigation Menu: Above the aforementioned search box on the left, there is a dropdown menu that you can use to other pages on the site, particularly the Phloggers' Pheeds page.
I'm constantly attempting to balance a clean site design with useful/interesting features. If you have any feedback, I'd love to hear it [trg at ballssticksstuff dot com].
