Free-agent corner outfielder Geoff Jenkins, the guest of Alderson/Towers/Black at a San Diego steakhouse last month, is highly unlikely to attract an offer from the Padres that compares with what the Phillies are inclined to guarantee him.
So the Phils are likely offering more in terms of money, a better ballpark for hitters, and a better supporting cast. On the other hand, Jenkins went to USC, is a West Coast native, and, have you ever been to San Diego?
I'm willing to bet Philly has a leg up overall, but it's not a big leg...
