...to the Red Sox and their fans.
For most of the season, they were really the best team in baseball. When it came to the World Series, it really showed.
As for the Rockies, their incredible run had to end at some point, it's just too bad for them it had to be in late-October rather than April.
Finally, concerning the Phillies, they'll be getting together as an organization today to strategize for the offseason. Todd Zolecki reports:
The Phillies will hold their organizational meetings today and tomorrow at Citizens Bank Park. Phillies front-office officials, scouts, and coaches from the major and minor leagues will be in attendance. They will go through the talent at every level in the Phils' system. But they also will discuss topics that will impact the big-league club next season:
How far should the Phils go to re-sign free-agent centerfielder Aaron Rowand? If he leaves, are they comfortable moving Shane Victorino to center, with Jayson Werth and Greg Dobbs possibly platooning in right? Can Michael Bourn play every day?
Is Brett Myers better suited to the bullpen or the rotation?
What about such prospective free agents as Curt Schilling, Mariano Rivera and Mike Lowell?
Notice anything missing from that first paragraph? Shouldn't there be someone there lending some sort of statistical analysis to all of those questions the team has to answer?
I'm not saying the decisions should be based solely on what's in an Excel file, but that perspective should most definitely be used as well.
Just ask the 2007 World Champions.
