Remember when you were a kid, and the last day of school came? You got off the yellow bus at the end of the day, looked around, and the idea of three homework-less months doing whatever your naive pre-adolescent heart desired brought you nothing but pure, unadulterated euphoria? Remember that feeling?
You should, because it is probably the same feeling you had when you found out yesterday that Adam Eaton was sent to the 15-day disabled list. The injury was listed as pitching without conviction shoulder inflammation. OK. Whatever works.
Eaton's starts in the rotation will be handed to J.D. Durbin. Durbin is no sure thing, by any means, to outperform Eaton, but here's the thing: he can't be any worse. It's likely that we'll see a little bit of everything from Durbin -- from dominating starts to disastrous starts -- but at least there is a chance of something good happening.
Incidentally, let's hope Eaton is sent to Clearwater to recuperate, far away from the Phillies, because I found this passage from Cole Hamels' self-composed essay on Phillies.com/MLB.com to be quite disturbing:
Sometimes I ask Jamie Moyer or Adam Eaton what they see, just to get another perspective.
Just imagine how low Hamels' ERA would be if he stayed as far away from Eaton on the bench as possible?
