PITTSBURGH --- The two major league baseball teams in New York, the Yankees and the Mets are currently building new ballparks and if they follow the architectural and aesthetic trend of recent years, they should be exceptional parks.
But for now, in the meantime, there is no state with two better ballparks than Pennsylvania. Citizens Bank Park and PNC Park are both wonderful places to spend a few hours and, if this Phillies phan dares to say it, the park in Pittsburgh is the better of the two.
PNC Park has a small-town feel to it, and a very easy-going experience was had on a night where a sellout crowd of over 36,000 descended on the North Shore. You would do well to re-create our evening:
- Park in downtown Pittsburgh near Point Park and leisurely stroll across the Roberto Clemente Bridge to the ballpark.
- While taking in batting practice, consume one Capicola and Cheese from Primanti Brothers, washing it down with an Iron City brew.
- Sit behind home plate and enjoy the view. Ticket prices are quite reasonable.
This truly is a golden age in ballpark construction.
