By my measure [via Google Earth], Ryan Howard's homerun on Sunday in the second inning was 446 feet. Officially, the Phillies measured it at 496 feet. Either way, the stewardess will be coming around shortly to take drink orders.
It was a good win for the Phils. Later in the game, Howard would hit a two-run homer to leftfield. Brett Myers turned in another good performance, allowing two-runs over six innings. Ryan Franklin, Arthur Rhodes and Tom Gordon pitched the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings. Of the relievers, Gordon was most impressive, striking out the side.
One can't help but wonder if Howard's moonshot in the sixth inning wasn't fueled by a little bit of anger over what happened to the Phillies in the first inning, with Howard on deck. Jimmy Rollins was on third base with two outs, and Chase Utley appeared to have worked an infield single. Though replays showed Utley was clearly safe, he was called out and he and Charlie Manuel were ejected from the game in protest.
Next up, Josh Fogg will take the mound for the Colorodo Rockies against Corey Lidle at Citizens Bank Park. Let's go Phils.
