Madson for '06 Rotation

Politics is something I try to stay away from on this site, simply because I want this place to remain civil and I like to think of this site as a bit of an escape from weighty matters.

But as readers know, I have dipped my toe into the political waters from time to time.  I put on my human rights activist hat for one worthy cause last spring.  In November, I appointed myself a campaign manager for a Frickin' election which was unfortunately lost.  And then of course, also in November, I published my thoughts on Samuel Alito: forget his professional background and qualifications, anyone who has endured the agony of being a life-long Phillies fan was unfit to hand down major legal decisions.

Since then, I have been rudderless, finding it difficult to find inspiration in anything, apathetic even.  But yesterday, I read this quote from Ryan Madson in the Inquirer, and I knew I had another cause to take up:

"I know there's a hole in the bullpen, but there's also a hole in the starting rotation...I don't think it should be held against me because I was used in the bullpen when I came up. If it was up to me, I'd start. But they'll make the decision."

MadsonRyan is right, there is a hole in the rotation, and I would contend that the hole there is bigger than the one in the bullpen.  Madson has the pitch repertoire (three pitches, including a pretty good curveball which must take a backseat to his fastball and changeup when he comes into games as a reliever) and a history as a starter in the minors good enough to be at least given a chance to start in the majors.
