For some reason, predicting the outcome of a playoff series is something we all like to engage in. For the first round of the baseball playoffs, I predicted the winners would be the Astros, the Angels, the Cardinals, and the Red Sox.
A seventy-five percent success rate is not too shabby, but when I look back, I don't know why I didn't pick the White Sox over the Red Sox. I guess that is why hindsight is 20/20.
For the league championships, I predicted the Astros and the White Sox would go on to the World Series, basically citing pitching as the reason each team would advance. And so for the World Series, I'll have to come up with some different reasoning.
Prediction: White Sox in 6 games. Each team had fairly similar run differentials in the regular season, so I think for the most part they are evenly matched. However, I think the White Sox have more momentum on their side. They rolled through the ALCS, whereas the Astros had trouble with a flawed Braves team and had a hiccup or two with the Cardinals.
Who I'm rooting for: The Astros. For one, I'm an NL guy, so I tend to root for the NL team, even if it's the Marlins. But the main reason is Bagwell and Biggio. They've played the game the right way for a long time and are good friends, it would make for a great story if they won the World Series together.
