...The Phillies have won four of their last six, outscoring their opponents 38-20. Next up, the Baltimore Orioles, who the Phillies will do well to outscore. So far in 2005, the O's have outscored the Phils 224 to 181.
...Pat Burrell's average is up over .300 and, his OPS is on the way back up, standing at .911. As a matter of fact, checking his monthly splits, his batting average and on-base percentage for May are slightly higher than April. ...Marcus Hayes is making complimentary headlines (I think it is anyway) about Brett Myers.
...Speaking of Myers, his ERA is still below two, and, he leads the NL in strikeouts with 71, a rate of 10.25 per 9 innings, behind only Pedro Martinez and Johan Santana in all of baseball.
...Chase Utley has not started a game on the pine since May 13th, nearly a week. Surely, much of that is due to Jim Thome's injury, but it's a start [pun accidental]. It seems to me that Utley is often right in the thick of a game. Yesterday, with two outs, Utley ran hard out of the box and beat/tied Jason Marquis to the base for an infield single, which scored Jimmy Rollins to break a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the 4th inning. The play gave he Phillies the lead, and they never looked back.
